@pacsayss Tony had plenty of other reasons for killing Ralph. He was gradually becoming more & more psychotic. He beat a pregnant stripper to death(When he mentions the beautiful creature he meant the Horse and the stripper), he almost made Georgie the bartender go blind when he beat him with the chain. And even though Tony never knew it at one? point Ralph told Johnny Sack that he wanted to kill Tony. So Tony had every right to do what he did. The horses death just really set Tony off.

I agree with the idea that David Chase wanted the viewers to draw their own conclusions as to what happened to Tony and his family. and possibly leave the option open for a movie, which as the years go by appears to be less of a possibility. I think Tony survives though...If he died by gunshot wouldnt it of been more creative to see Tony from what he saw from his prospective and then the screen going blank? Also, even though it was done twice in the series, killin a boss is against the rules.

Like most people, I used to think that Tony was killed. But now, after reading some additional comments by David Chase, as well as watching and interpreting this scene many times over, I now think he lived. I think Chase fucked everybody by giving his show the most ambivalent ending of all time. Even Benson's cliffhanger ending was clear cut- he either won or lost.
