@intoodeep241 I?m not sure. I can answer general theory questions but I don?t really fallow who owns what. I believe other companies have experimented with rotary, but for them, the drawbacks outweighed the positives as far as mass production. For the foreseeable future Mazda seems to be the only one to really embrace the rotary engine and sometimes I get the feeling their reasoning is purely to sell something a little different.

Mazda has the patent on oiling etc almost every car company has made a rotary motor Mazda just figured out how to make it practical and last dodge had one in the gremlin rolls Royce had a twin rotary (twin stacked) Call em weedeaters I run with 2 stroke oil and do my part in killing the planet Great video tho helps show what a rotary motor does

I'm going to make a comparison...a rotary engine is like a Pit Bull, small package with a big bite!

@Warblade118 I HEARD !!! this is only what i've heard of course..that ford (mazda) will not give up the patent on the tech...is that correct? idk, i'm just asking

@radconserv86 there are 3 "chambers" firing consistantly

thanks great job!!!! simple, clear, concise--appreciate the good work!

An interesting mathematical sidebar--the shape of the rotor in the Wankel engine is a curve of constant width known as a Reuleaux triangle. That's why it can maintain contact with the surrounding housing to separate the ignition and exhaust.
By: radconserv86. on 28 Aug 10, 19:30:47
Are there three "chambers" operating at all times or does it just have one compression per revolution? In other words, while one side of the "triangle" is compressing the fuel/air mixture, is another side expelling exhaust, while the third side is pulling in the fuel/ air mix?

amazing vid dude this helped alot i randomly wanted to figure out the difference between a regular motor and a rotary engine and wikipedia was helping none lol any chance you could make a video showing how to swap a 1.3 rx8 motor into a 99 eclipse just kidding

@rek636 Thanks! Nah, I didn't use any math to create the geometry. Just went off high-res photos of the engine to create all the 3D elements.

@juandavidgon Warblade118 speaks the truth, one of the things many people don't know is that the rotary engine burns oil as part of its design, whereas a piston engine burns it only as it starts to get older and fail.
