R. Lee Ermey was really a DI and also served in Viet Nam Interesting story He was originally hired as an adviser to the actor playing in Full Metal Jacket and did such a job they hired him instead.

Respect to the Corps. It's the only branch of the military that has not been totally subdued with the Political INcorrectness of the Civilian so called elitist homosexual politicians and college professors. Semper Fi!

The first time I was told to center on the hatch I misunderstood the di's order and was confused. Not wanting to do nothing, I guessed, and sat down cross legged on the threshold of his hatch. I thought he said sit on my hatch. My senior DI looked down at me just as confused as I was. "Son you really are retarded aren't you" only time I ever saw pity from a DI. Laughing out loud about it now.

I posted because there we errors in BenAliGtors post (2mos. ago) The name was incorrect. The Marine Corps which had suffered a "Black_eye" from this incident was NEVER in danger of being dis-banded. There will always be incidents, as long the Marines are staffed by humans. And as long as there is a U.S. of A.; there will always be marines to defend her. From the Halls of Montezuma, To the shores of Tripoli,... We are proud to claim the title of United Staes Marines. Semper Fi

Staff Sergeant McKeon was brought to a court of inquiry directly on the following day. He was classified mentally and "emotionally stable" and "a mature, stable appearing career Marine." The court recognized that the detailed directives regarding and prohibiting certain Marine training methods were "correct and adequate", and that McKeon had launched an unnecessary and unauthorized disciplinary action. It was also found that he had been drunk and McKeon was recommended to be court-martialled.

On April 8, 1956, at 2000 hours, Staff Sergeant Matthew McKeon, a combat veteran of World War II and the Korean War, led Platoon 71, his assigned platoon of 74 recruits, on an extra exercise to Ribbon Creek as a disciplinary measure. However, some of the young men could not swim and the platoon marched into deep water. There was a sudden burst of screaming and panic and then a mad dash for the shore. After a short while, it was noticed that some recruits were missing. Six men had drowned.

If you've got this much footage, what about posting Monica Lewis' song "If'n You Don't, Somebody Else Will"?

Naw, the Penn's, Glover's and Sarandon's and Asner's will never kill the Corps, they need us to keep the First Ammendment alive so they can use it to spill their garbage...

Semper Fi to DiabloDog3 from nola305. ( U.S. Army veteran, 2nd Infantry div.) I watch this movie every time i get bored from watching mushy and boy scout type movies on t.v. Everytime i think about the marines in Lebanon without ammo, my stomach turns. WHAT A MISTAKE ! I am a GREAT admirer of the U.S.M.C. and all it stands for. (wish i had passed the initial written test that i took before being accepted by the Army).

They made this flick after the Ribbon Creek incident in the 50's. A drill instructor (William McKeon, a decorated vet of WWII and Korea) led his platoon at PI on a forced night march through a swamp. He'd been drinking. Several recruits were killed. There was a court martial with a large hue & cry about training techniques- it damn near ended the Corps. There were changes made, and this film helped remind America that tough but fair training builds Marines.

Everybody is got to remember one thing, the Marine Corps is set up for killing America's enemies. This is why we have freedom and are able to do things like voting, going to church or even writing comments on you tube. The Corps is not the boy scouts. Remember the FREE in freedom.
