@nicklinkzelda really??? haha... no.. don t worry it doesn t smell at all, only after 2-3 hours starts smelling... but it s not bad...*winks*... birds' dissections have the worst smell :S...

This is something I'll have to do pretty soon... hopefully it doesn't smell too bad!! ^^

@slightom77 hmmm is it a rhetorical question??? kidding... well... it wasn t something pleasant... i mean, i could let the prof do it... but i wanted to try it... now, about the technique... hold its tail, wait till it calms down, push the forceps onto the back of its neck and pull the tail till you hear a few cracking noises :S:S:S fron the mouse's neck... that s how it s done...

how did you kill the mouse?

@tiff2106 hahaha...well...we didn t have to kill the mice either... only whoever wanted to did... mmm...about the pregnant mouse... i wouldn t call it fascinating... but deffinitely interesting...

I`m glad we didn`t have to kill the mice we dissected today! But how fascinating was the pregnant mouse?
By: SpookyBiology. on 15 Feb 10, 14:21:32
@krossbonnez hahaha... deffinitely not... really you don t have to worry...many of my girl classmates who are very ''sensitive'' hadn t any problem...at least not a big one...hahaha...*winks... as i ve told you... it s just the ''first shock''... then everything is fine :D... calm down...it s honestly nothing...*winks...
By: krossbonnez. on 15 Feb 10, 14:14:04
LoL okay. Thanks. I won't pass out right ?

@krossbonnez oh... really??? please don t freak out... it s very interesting... but you ll see yourself :D... perhaps you ll be a little shocked at the beginning...but that s it...hehe... to tell you the truth i was rather excited than nervous...*winks...

I have to dissect a mouse for my biology class. I am freaking it now. :(

@cruciferum i wasn t kidding either... you are right ;)...

@cruciferum hahaha... indeed... i ll try to keep that in mind... thanks for the comment...*winks...

Nevertheless, paying a little respec to to an innocent animal that is robbed of its life so that your kind will progress, isn't too much of you to do.

Ok 1 day after my wonderful experience? on mice dissecting...I feel ok I guess but a litle bit shocked at the immaturity of some of my fellow students..While I was strugling to make a decent dissection my other 2 labpartners were...painting the? mouse's tail and nails!!! a fellow Greek biotechnology student.

@horcia85 yeah... it was great talking to you too :P... cheers!!!
By: SpookyBiology. on 04 Jan 10, 20:55:49
@horcia85 Ok... now that we are talking about the same thing... I HAVE GREAT NEWS FOR YOU... THESE MICE... WERE NOT KILLED...at least not in our lab... i know it was awful distressing them and i TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU in that fact... i thought that this whole time you were talking about the killing... so i have to apologise... you are right in the matter of distressing... i couldn t agree more with you...
By: horcia85. on 04 Jan 10, 20:51:26
@SpookyBiology Cheers :) It was nice to have a conversation with you :)
By: SpookyBiology. on 04 Jan 10, 19:21:36
@horcia85 believe me,not all my friends enjoyed it... some said ''why would i have to watch it???'' but unfortunately you cannot become this kind of scientist without killing animals... i don t think that i would kill a dog... for the simple reason that a dog is not one of the known ''lab-animals''...dogs are genetically far from human beings...whereas mice are the next more genetically realated to people (after monkeys)... and apart from that... mice give birth every 20 days to 3-10 pups...
By: horcia85. on 04 Jan 10, 19:06:59
@SpookyBiology It was rather a retorical question but what I meant was approach to the animal...especially that 'a little break' bit about disturbing mice (causing distress) and your friends enjoying it. It looks funny with the mice but it would look cruel with the dog. Can you see it?... And the whole thing is not about choosing a method of killing but about the way you treat animals before they die. You could be surprised how strict animal welfare rules are in laboratory animal facilities.
By: SpookyBiology. on 04 Jan 10, 18:16:47
@horcia85 of course i won t get you wrong... after all it s your opinion and i respect it even though i don t completely agree... we had to kill the mice since it was an anatomy lesson... now about what i would do if the mouse was the dog's size... well... if i had to dissect it... i would choose another way of killing... i hope this answers your question...
