it could be used as a sort of portable surround sound for like an ipod or something. it's pretty neat how the flaps go to cover the speakers, it like distorts the sound just enough to make it sound somewhat realistic

Haha dancing little robot! Creative awesomeness! It's art, thats the point. Contrary to what expect from a robot, evokes emotion that compliments emotion of music by dancing with it's motions and flashing colors. Look up other dancing robots by Sony, very impressive!
