Currency naturally occurs on the market. It's simply a material that people can easily exchange as a store of value. Anything that meets certain criteria can be used as currency (Tobacco in Virginia Colony, Cigarettes in WWII POW camps, or even big rocks on the island of Yap). It really depends on how the market behaves. Of course, if you'd had even a BASIC grounding in economics, I wouldn't have to tell you.
